10 Life Changing Tips: How To Eat Healthy Without Breaking The Bank

Last Updated: Oct 28, 2018
Don’t believe the lies! Many people are convinced that it’s absolutely impossible to eat healthy without spending a jaw dropping amount of money. Although it may be more expensive, it most certainly is possible to eat well-balanced, wholesome meals without going broke.
Eating fast food may seem cheaper and more convenient than many healthy alternatives. But is it really?
A person that consumes fast food weekly may have to spend thousands on medical bills in the not so distant future, while someone that chooses to live a healthier and more active lifestyle won’t have to deal with an issue like that.
The tips below may not appeal to the part of your mind that loves junk food, but the section of your brain that wants you to lose weight will be very pleased if you listen to my suggestions.
How To Eat Healthy Without Breaking The Bank
Here are 10 ways to improve your health without wasting a ridiculous amount of cash:
1. Ditch soda and choose to drink H2O
Sugary beverages such as Coke and Sprite are full of empty calories and unhealthy additives. To save money, cut out all soda from your diet and start drinking water only.
You can save even more money by investing in a reusable water bottle and not purchasing expensive bottled water. Multiple studies have shown that bottled water is not any cleaner than tap water¹ (making it a complete waste of money).
2. Try frozen fruits and vegetables
I definitely encourage you all to get in the habit of buying fresh, organic produce every week if you can. However, if you’re on a tight budget and you don’t want to deal with the hassle of making perfect fruit and vegetable selections (something I’m not very good at), go frozen.
Frozen fruit and vegetables are more difficult to be eaten as an on the go snack, but they are beneficial in many ways. They can be bought in large quantities, they take a lot longer to expire, and some scientific tests have shown they hold nutrients longer than fresh produce.
3. Save money by buying in bulk
Buying in bulk is almost always cheaper than buying just a few things. I included “almost” because many people fall into the trap of buying a large amount of food that they end up throwing out.
So, whenever you go to Costco bring a grocery list of the foods you need and don’t even think about getting anything not on that list (no matter how good it looks at the time). Stick to this plan and make all your food purchasing decisions based on logic (which leads me to tip #5).
4. Don’t shop on an empty stomach: make decisions with logic not hunger
Shopping on an empty stomach is the easiest way to overspend at the grocery store. Be smart and make sure you’re well-nourished before stepping foot into any store that sells food.
5. Start cooking yourself
Pre-made meals are always more costly than buying a set of ingredients and cooking the dish yourself.
If you’re not so good in the kitchen, look for easy, healthy recipes that don’t take too long to make.
6. Make sure you consume everything you buy
Do not waste! Trashing uneaten food is like flushing money down the toilet, there is absolutely no reason for it. Always buy less than you think you need so you’re not stuck with extras.
Remember that less is more.
7. Eat Your Greens
According to Jill Nussinow, a culinary educator and author of The Veggie Queen :
“Greens are the No. 1 food you can eat to lose weight and help improve your health”.
leafy veggies and crunchy salads are definitely to include in the daily meal plan. They are a cheap “filler upper.”,Plus, leafy vegetables are great sources of fiber, minerals, vitamins and healthy plant-based substances.
8. See if there’s a farmer’s market in your area
Shopping at farmers’ markets is an excellent way to get less expensive, fresh fruits and vegetables. I personally prefer the taste of fruit from a farmer’s market over any grocery store.
9. Take advantage of sales and don’t be afraid to use coupons
When there’s a big sale of an item you love, buy it in bulk. Don’t be afraid to stock up like there’s no tomorrow. Also use coupons whenever you can.
10. Sign up for rewards programs
Many, if not all, grocery stores offer some sort of rewards program. Whether you can earn points or free prizes, take advantage of what your local store offers.
If the rewards at one grocery store are extra awesome then be loyal and don’t shop anywhere else!
Losing weight and living a healthy lifestyle is hard work, but trust me it’s well worth it. Waking up in the morning with tons of energy, feeling great when you look in the mirror, and having an improved quality of life are just a few advantages of being fit and active.
Most people fall short of getting their dream body because of diet. Following a realistic eating plan is the only way you’ll slim down or bulk up.
If you stay focused and stay determined nothing will stop you from getting the body you’ve always dreamed of.
