Not many people are familiar with this berry. It is bright orange with hints of yellow, and tastes tart and fatty. Seabuckthorn is native over a wide area of Europe and Asia, and has only recently been introduced to North America (which mimics its natural habitat).

The health benefits of seabuckthorn are endless. This miracle berry is loaded with protein building amino acids, vitamins B1, B2, K, C, A E, and folic acid. It contains over 60 antioxidants, and at least 20 different minerals, as well as healthy fatty acids. It is seriously one of the most amazing berries on the planet – and yet, very little people are even aware of its existence.

I was recently gifted some products from SBT Seabuckthorn. They have a huge range of items that are cruelty-free, eco-friendly, paraben-free and SLS and DEA free!

The shampoo got rid of the grime that often stuck to my hair from other hair care products,

and left it feeling silky smooth and looking great. Their soothing salve for muscle and joint pain helped my knee when I was having issues with it. The skin repair salve saved my hands and my lips when I was working in the cold up in Northern Manitoba. I gave the Night Cream and Day Cream to my mother, and she couldn’t stop raving about them.

The stretch mark cream I think still works its magic. I don’t think stretch marks really go away (maybe just fade and go silvery), but I think using creams made of quality ingredients, like those from SBT, help prevent more from forming and I trust that this would be a great product for women wanting to prevent stretch marks when losing weight, or when pregnant.

The SBT soap was one of my favourites, because it felt really good on my skin. Some IMG_5550

soaps, like Dr. Bronners (who I still love, but for other purposes than washing my body), always made my skin feel very dry, but SBT left it feeling soft and moisturized. The tea was also another highlight, and I still drink it every night to this day. I think drinking seabuckthorn in tea form is one of the best ways to get it in your body. That, or taking it in the form of oil, which I also received. Seabuckthorn oil will actively absorb in the body, providing you with all the body-boosting benefits it has to offer.

If you are looking for some quality Seabuckthorn products, go with SBT. This is an honest opinion of their products, and I would never promote something I didn’t like. Check out their website for more information!

Here are 10 of the most important health benefits of seabuckthorn:

Seabuckthorn-benefits

Help Reduce Symptoms of Dry Eye

If you experience chronic dry eyes, you may get relief from consuming seabuckthorn oil. The linolenic acid in the oil is anti-inflammatory, helping to provide relief to the eyes. It is also a rich source of vitamin E, which can protect the eye from oxidative damage. Just two grams per day is enough to feel relief!

Cardio-Protective Effects

Seabuckthorn berries have wonderful heart-saving effects. Just 5 grams per day of oil can help prevent cardiovascular disease. The carotenoids and flavonoids in seabuckthron help lower cholesterol, platelet aggregation, blood pressure and blood sugar. They also improve cardiac cell health, and prevent cardiac cell death from oxidative stress and injuries.

Boost The Immune System

These berries are loaded with antioxidants that help protect and strengthen the immune system. Seabuckthorn is high in vitamin C, which has been proven to fight various forms of cancer. The anti-inflammatory effects of the berry also keep free-radicals from proliferating and attacking the immune system.

Fight Depression

Seabuckthorn bark contains high levels of serotonin, the “happiness hormone” – serotonin levels are usually low in depressed individuals, so increasing the amount of serotonin-rich foods you consume is important if you want to keep your moods more regulated. Consuming seabuckthorn in the form of tea is more likely that you’ll receive these serotonin-boosting benefits.

Excellent Source of Omega-7 Fatty Acids

You don’t often hear about omega-7 fatty acids as commonly as you do omega-3,6 and 9. However, omega-7 fatty acids are a very important part of a healthy diet. Seabuckthorn berries contain a specific type of omega-7 fatty acid called palmitoleic acid, which helps reduce the risk of critical illnesses like heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

Improve Digestion

This miracle berry dramatically improves digestion, mainly by normalizing the output of gastric acid and reducing inflammation. The palmitoleic acid derived from the omega-7 component also helps prevent and reverse Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) and gastric ulcers. It strengthens the mucous membranes that line the inner walls of the stomach, esophagus and intestines. So instead of taking a Tums, try seabuckthorn berry oil instead!

Moisturize Skin and Scalp

Seabuckthorn berry oil contains palmitoleic acid, which is a component of skin. This fatty acid helps nourish the skin, when taken orally, or if applied topically. Seabuckthorn oil is widely known for its beneficial effect in helping heal burns, scalds, infections or ulcerations. It also works as an effective sun block, protecting the skin from harmful UV-rays.

Support Healthy Hormones

In order to properly synthesize hormones, the body needs a specific combination of fatty acids. The omega-7 fatty acids in seabuckthorn oil have been shown to affect the hormones that control fat storage, helping to inhibit hormonal activities that signal the body to store excess glucose as fat.

Reduce Inflammation

As we have seen, seabuckthorn is a wonderful anti-inflammatory. Reducing inflammation in the body will improve the way you feel and experience pain. It will also help prevent skin conditions like acne, dermatitis, or eczema, and can reduce pain associated with a bad back or sore joints. A large percentage of diseases are inflammatory in nature, so reducing inflammation will reduce your risk of developing disease and illness.

Liver And Pancreas Support

Seabuckthorn berries, and the oil specifically, help protect the liver from alfatoxin damage. Alfatoxins are produced by species of fungi that contaminate corn, peanut and tree nut crops. Seabuckthorn oil also helps normalize liver enzymes and serum bile acids.
