Asthma is one of the causes of infertility
Excessive exposure to specific environmental factors such as pesticides and asthma and other chemical compounds, frequent exposure to heat such as steam baths and saunas (with increased body temperature) can disrupt sperm production.
Some women may have been waiting to get pregnant for many years, but their waiting has been fruitless; Because one of the possibilities that has recently been raised in this regard is so strange that at first glance few people think of it: according to a recent study by Danish researchers, pregnancy will be more difficult if a person has asthma.
Studies by researchers at the Research Center for Respiratory Diseases at the Copenhagen Hospital in Denmark show that women who have asthma will face pregnancy problems more than others. The Danish researchers of this center studied more than 15,000 women in this study and asked them if they had tried to get pregnant in the last year or not. 27% of respondents who had asthma stated that they spent more than a year waiting to get pregnant; While this number among non-asthmatics was 21%. The results of this research show that women with asthma who did not take any measures to treat themselves suffered from infertility several times more than those who tried to treat their disease.
Recovery after pregnancy
Dr. Avner Hershlag, one of the researchers of this research, says: “One of the main reasons for the long-term delay in women’s fertility is the lack of treatment or inappropriate treatment of asthma. In fact, their desire to have children should be completed through therapeutic measures; Otherwise, they should forget about waiting to get pregnant quickly. “In any case, in the long run and after a significant period of time, women with asthma will also become pregnant, but there is no difference in the ability to conceive between them and other women.” However, researchers are continuing to study how the inflammation that causes asthma can target other organs in the body. One of the members of the group says about this: “This inflammation may even reach the uterus and prevent the implantation of the egg.” Referring to effective asthma treatment methods, Dr. Herschlag adds: “As you know, there are several treatment methods, including drug treatments to fight asthma; But a very important point that should be mentioned in relation to this disease and pregnancy is the side effects of some drugs on the fetus. In fact, asthma treatment should continue even after pregnancy, but the mother should receive the most serious medical care. The first step in this regard is to announce the pregnancy to the doctor treating respiratory diseases. Considering the condition of the mother, he prescribes appropriate drugs that have fewer side effects.”
