Breast mammography and the importance of doing it after 40 years old

If you are 40 years old, we recommend that you consult a gynecologist for mammography for your health and make sure that your breasts are healthy by screening with mammography.

According to recently published updated US health guidelines, women over 40 should talk to their doctor and then decide whether they need regular mammograms to screen for breast cancer before the recommended age of 50.

The final guidelines, published by the US Preventive Services Task Force in the Annals of Internal Medicine, reiterate the controversial recommendations first made in 2009.

The latest guidelines still recommend that women between the ages of 50 and 74 be screened for breast cancer every 2 years.

They further state that women over 40 should also consider screening every 2 years after considering other factors and consulting with their doctor.
