Do you know the types of dialysis?

Dialysis is used for people suffering from kidney failure, kidney failure will cause a lot of damage to the health of the body, which will be minimized with the dialysis method.

The kidneys are responsible for purifying the blood, and they must do this by removing waste materials and excess fluids from the body. When the kidneys do not function properly and according to the normal routine, dialysis is used to regulate the functioning of the kidneys. Dialysis is a type of treatment in which special machines are used for blood purification. When the kidneys are unable to perform their duties, this method keeps the body in a balanced state. From the beginning of the 1940s until today, dialysis has always been an important method for treating people with kidney problems. Why dialysis?! The optimal functioning of the kidneys does not allow water, waste materials and other impurities to accumulate in the body. In addition, healthy kidneys help control blood pressure, regulate levels of chemicals in the body (such as sodium, salt, and potassium). They even activate a special type of vitamin D that improves calcium absorption. When the kidneys cannot perform these functions successfully due to disease or injury, dialysis can restore the body’s condition to normal. Without dialysis, salt and various waste compounds accumulate in the blood and eventually poison the body. However, dialysis is not a definitive treatment for kidney disease or kidney-related problems. Dealing with these diseases usually requires a set of treatment methods together. How does dialysis work? In general, dialysis has two different types: hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.

What is dialysis solution? Hemodialysis Hemodialysis is the most common type of dialysis. In this method, a type of artificial kidney called hemodialyzer is used to remove waste materials and chemical compounds from the blood. In order to make the patient’s blood flow in this artificial kidney, the doctor accesses the blood vessels with the help of surgery. This vascular access allows more blood to flow through the body during hemodialysis. As a result, more blood is filtered and purified. Hemodialysis usually takes 3 to 5 hours and should be done 3 times a week. However, doctors can use hemodialysis for a shorter period of time and with more sessions. Of course, the timing of dialysis depends on the size of the patient’s body and the amount of waste materials in the body. Peritoneal Dialysis In peritoneal dialysis, surgery is used to place a catheter in the abdominal area. During this treatment, a special liquid called dialysate flows in the abdomen. As the dialysate removes waste material from the bloodstream, the catheter is removed from the abdomen. Peritoneal dialysis has different types, but the most important ones are permanent outpatient peritoneal dialysis and periodic continuous peritoneal dialysis. In the permanent outpatient type, the abdominal area is filled and emptied several times a day, but in the continuous type, the device is periodically used to enter and remove liquids in the abdominal area. The second type is usually done at night while sleeping.
