Does Coconut Oil Help Acne Scars?

Coconut oil can help to get rid of acne scars. But that depends on the condition of the pigmentation and how soon you treat them.

In other words, the sooner you attend to them, the higher the chances you can get rid of your acne scars with coconut oil.

For example, if your acne has just healed, then the scars (red marks) left behind are new. At this point, applying coconut oil to the pigmented spot may help to lighten or even completely remove the pigmentation. This will take several days, at least.

Thanks to the saturated fats in coconut oil that don’t oxidize, and hence, able to inhibit oxidation caused by free radicals.

Oxidation can aggravate your already pigmented acne scars by darkening the red mark. It gets even worse when you expose your newly healed acne to UV from the sun.

Moreover, the MCTs (medium-chain triglycerides) in coconut oil can boost metabolism. This will help your acne scars to lighten and fade off faster.

Therefore, coconut oil does help acne scars. And to quite a good extent.

Actually, you don’t have to wait till your scars are formed then you start using coconut oil trying to lighten and get rid of them.

You should start to apply coconut oil as soon as your pimples show signs of healing. This might help to prevent the formation of acne scars.

However, if you’re trying to get rid of your pitted acne scars, using coconut oil may not help much.

Those scars have been on your skin for a long time. It would be near impossible for coconut oil to help form new skin cells to “fill” the pits and lift up to make your skin even, thereby, healing the scars.

But no harm trying. Who knows, your pitted acne scars might just improve with regular use of coconut oil?

Having said all that, you should try to treat your acne scars with coconut oil as early as possible before they fade off by themselves and form pits on your skin over time. By the time they form pits, it would be difficult to get rid of them.

How to Use Coconut Oil for Acne Scars

Simple. Just dab a little coconut oil on the scarred spot and massage gently to help your skin absorb the oil better. Do this as often as you can until your acne scars lighten and heal eventually.

But I got to warn you about using coconut oil on skin to remove acne scars. Coconut oil has potent detox properties.

If your skin is still “dirty” underneath even though your acne seems to have healed, you might experience a breakout when coconut oil starts drawing toxins from beneath your skin.

The chances of getting breakouts are particularly high when treating acne scars with virgin coconut oil. Virgin coconut oil has the strongest detox properties. (If nothing occurs on your skin, good for you.)

However, if you were using virgin coconut oil to treat acne in the first place, then you shouldn’t have to worry about getting breakouts while the scars are healing. That’s because all toxins would have been drawn and cleared during that acne treatment with virgin coconut oil.

Which means, it’s a one-stop solution that benefits both acne and acne scars. So, use virgin coconut oil the next time acne strikes your skin.

Last but not least, good skin comes from the inside out. So, less meat, less refined food, more fruits, more vegetables, and your skin will glow with as little scars as possible.
