How is a nail fungal infection diagnosed?

Fungal infections of the nails can lead to more serious problems if you have diabetes or a weakened immune system. Such people’s best way to treat nail infections is to see a doctor. Fungal infections of the nails are caused by walking barefoot in baths or pools and personal items such as towels and stains.

Nail fungal infections are common in the elderly and middle-aged, but can also occur in young people. Various factors cause nail infections, such as walking barefoot, weakened immune system and nail implants, artificial nails or pedicures and nail manicures in hairdressers and related places.

The severity of the infection varies, some people see only a black spot on their nails, but others experience pain and discomfort.

Early signs of a fungal nail infection include small black spots on the nail, yellowing of the nail, or deformity of the nail.

Fortunately, there are ways to treat this problem.

1- Keep the nails dry.

To get rid of nail fungus, you need to keep it dry, because this fungus grows in hot and humid environments.

Therefore, when dealing with water for a long time, such as washing clothes or washing dishes, you should wear plastic gloves or disposable gloves so that your nails do not get wet.

Of course, you should pay attention to the air flowing in your hands so that they do not sweat.

2- Clean your nail polish.

To treat nail fungus, the nail should be exposed to light and light, because this fungus grows in a dark environment. Therefore, as soon as you see the symptoms of nail fungus, remove your nail polish immediately.

3- Use anti-fungal nail cream or ointment.

Topical antifungal creams or ointments usually treat the nail infection within six weeks. These ointments are useful for long-term infections with pain. Use these ointments according to their instructions.

4. Take an oral medication by seeing a doctor.

If the fungal infection of the nail does not go away with antifungal ointment, see a dermatologist or general practitioner to prescribe the necessary oral medication for you. There are several oral medications available to treat nail fungus. Tell your doctor about your health status and all your illnesses to avoid harmful side effects.

Cut your infected nails short.

Before taking the medicine for your nails, shorten it with a nail clipper, then scrape the thick nail spots with a nail file.

6- Disinfect or throw away the nail clipper or nail file.

Nail infection is contagious. Therefore, to prevent the spread of this infection to other nails or other people’s nails, disinfect or throw away the nail file and nail clipper used for infected nails.

7- Mix apple cider vinegar and hydrogen peroxide (hydrogen peroxide) in half. Then put your hands in this solution for 45 minutes every day for a few days.

8- Pour Vitex the size of a can lid into a large glass of water. Then soak your infected nails in this solution for one minute. Do this for a few days to get rid of nail fungus.

9- Pour 3 glasses of warm water with a glass and a half of distilled white vinegar in a bowl. Soak your nails in this solution for 15 to 20 minutes. Then wash your hands with water and dry with a clean towel.

Then dip a cotton ball in tea tree oil. Put this cotton on your infected nails. If the fungal infection is severe or widespread, apply a band-aid to the cotton so that the cotton soaked in tea tree oil stays on your nails for 2 to 3 hours.

Do this twice a day. If your skin becomes sensitive and irritated, do this one at a time.

10- You can use antifungal nail polish that is sold in pharmacies.


If a fungal nail infection persists for more than two weeks or gets worse quickly, see a dermatologist or GP immediately.
