The type of breast tissue leads to breast cancer!
Women who have breasts that are mostly made up of denser glandular tissue are more likely to develop breast cancer.
After studying 200,000 women, researchers say that breast density may be the most important risk factor for breast cancer, along with family history of the disease and other high-risk factors.
“The most important finding of this study is the effect of breast density on breast cancer in the population,” says Dr. Carla Kerlikowske, head of the research team from the University of California.
According to the explanations of the researchers of this university, breast glandular tissue can be seen in standard mammography, while fatty tissue is less visible. Many factors can affect the composition of breast tissue.
According to researchers, obese or overweight women tend to have lower breast density, although age is an important determinant of breast density.
Researchers believe that denser breasts are more susceptible to tumors due to cellular factors, and it is also more difficult to detect smaller tumors in dense tissue through mammography.
