Nails are a mirror of your health. By looking at your nails a little, you can know about your physical health. Types of nail diseases will be examined in this section. Did you know that your nails can provide clues to your overall health?

The presence of whiteness in the nails or the presence of a slight effect of rosy color or some roughness in the nails may be a sign of disease in the body. Problems with the liver, lungs and heart can show up on your nails.

Pale nails

Sometimes very pale nails can be a sign of a serious disease, such as:

  • Anemia
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Liver disease
  • Malnutrition

  • If most parts of the nail are white with a darker border, it could indicate liver problems such as hepatitis.

. Yellow nails

  • One of the most common causes of yellow nails is fungal infections. As the infection gets worse, the nail bed may sink in and the nails may become thicker.
  • In rare cases, yellow nails can indicate a serious illness such as severe thyroid disease, lung disease, diabetes or psoriasis.

  • Bluish nails can mean that the body is not receiving enough oxygen.
  • It can also indicate a lung infection such as pneumonia.
  • Some heart problems are also associated with bluish nails.

  • If the surface of the nail is wavy or pitted, this may be an early sign of psoriasis or inflammatory arthritis.
  • Nail discoloration is common.
  • The skin under the nails can look reddish brown.

  • Dry and brittle nails that are constantly cracking or splitting are associated with thyroid disease.
  • Nail cracks or fissures in combination with yellow are more likely to be a fungal infection.

  • If the skin around the nail looks red and puffy, it is known as nail inflammation.
  • It may be caused by lupus or another connective tissue disease. Infection can also cause redness and inflammation of the nail.

  • Dark lines under the nails should be checked as soon as possible.
  • They often occur in melanoma, which is the most dangerous type of skin cancer.

Chewed nails

  • Nail biting may be nothing more than an old habit, but in some cases it is considered a sign of persistent anxiety.
  • Nail biting and plucking is also associated with obsessive-compulsive disorder.
  • If you can not stop chewing nails, it is better to consult your doctor.
