** Pancreas
The pancreas is a long, broad gland in the upper abdomen and back of the stomach, consisting of three parts: the head, the trunk, and the tail. Its head is located in an arch of the duodenum. The trunk of the pancreas is behind the stomach and its tail extends close to the spleen. The weight of the pancreas is about one hundred grams.
The pancreas is both an endocrine gland (a gland whose secretions enter the bloodstream called hormones) and an exocrine gland (a gland whose secretions are directed out of the body) that secrete enzymes and other substances. It enters the intestinal tract directly and helps digest protein, fat and carbohydrates.
