Coping with dementia by consuming milk
What effects can consuming milk have on the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease and reduce its symptoms? Can dairy products prevent this condition?
In the early 1980s in the United States, a type of pesticide called “heptachlor epoxide” was found in milk, which caused the use of this pesticide to be banned throughout the country. In the past, this pesticide was used in pineapple fields.
The researchers pointed out that this study can only show a link between consumption of contaminated milk and Parkinson’s disease and cannot prove that the pesticide or milk consumption directly causes Parkinson’s disease. It is not even possible to say with certainty whether the milk consumed by the male participants in this study contained heptachlor epoxide.
On the other hand, milk consumption was measured only once at the beginning of the study, and the researchers inevitably assumed that milk consumption was a regular dietary habit of these subjects.
Participants in the study were followed for thirty years, and autopsies were performed after they died.
The results of this study showed that among non-smokers, the number of cells in a certain area of the brain in people who drank more than two glasses of milk per day was 40% less than the brain cells of people who consumed less than two glasses of milk per day. This area is the part of the brain whose cell loss causes Parkinson’s disease, and its changes may begin even a decade before the symptoms of the disease appear.
Among smokers, no relationship was found between milk consumption and a decrease in the number of brain cells. Previous studies have also shown that the percentage of Parkinson’s disease is lower among smokers.
However, the number of people who had lost a significant portion of their brain cells due to drinking two glasses of milk a day was only 12 people, and most importantly, even the small amounts of pesticides accumulated in the contaminated milk Brain cell loss has been a major contributor. Therefore, people cannot be prohibited from drinking milk. Therefore, the important question that arises is whether it is time for organic and chemical-free products to enter the market seriously?
