Think you need milk for healthy bones? Think again. If you want to prevent osteoporosis and brittle bones, you need to eat your greens and other fruit and veggies. Green smoothies are great for infusing your body with alkalizing minerals like calcium, magnesium, phosphorous and manganese, all elements of proper bone formation and maintenance.
Most people have been brought up to be taught that milk is needed to provide calcium for the bones. This, however, is a huge myth. Studies have found that women who drink two or more glasses of milk per day actually increased their risk for hip fracture by 45%!
The high protein levels in milk and other dairy products create an acidic environment in the body, which literally strips crucial minerals like calcium from our bones to help buffer the acid and raise our pH levels to a manageable level. Since these minerals are being taken from our bones, our bones become weak and we get diseases like osteoporosis.
Consuming a high alkaline plant-based diet and including plenty of green juices and smoothies into your diet will help strengthen your bones and greatly reduce your risk of developing osteoporosis later in life.
