How much do you know about the signs and symptoms of MS in different people? What strategies help us to prevent this dangerous complication? Reduction of vitamin D is the most important factor for us to get this dangerous disease.
Multiple sclerosis, or MS, is a chronic neurological disease in which the immune system attacks healthy tissues in the central nervous system. MS is caused by an immune system response and causes inflammation in the central nervous system. Inflammation destroys myelin. Myelin is a fatty tissue that protects nerve fibers.
The age of onset of the disease is usually between 20 and 50 years, and women are twice as likely to develop it as men.
One of the most recent studies published in Neurology supports the evidence that vitamin D may be beneficial for people with MS. This study only shows that a very large amount of vitamin D (10,400 international units per day) reduces the number of specific immune system cells involved in the course of MS.
“I do not intend to make any further claims,” said Dr. Peter Calabersi, a professor at Johns Hopkins University who led the study. In this study, Dr. Calabersi and his research team looked at vitamin D intake in 40 adults.
One group consumed 10,400 international units of vitamin D daily for six months, and the other group consumed only 800 international units of vitamin D daily. In fact, their immune system function was altered.
The most important change was that the cells producing the inflammatory protein interleukin-17 were reduced. With all these results, Dr. Calabersi emphasizes that the intake of vitamin D for MS patients should only be done under the supervision of a specialist.
For these reasons, taking antioxidants may be effective in controlling the symptoms of MS. Alkaline ionized water due to its strong antioxidant properties can help these patients by neutralizing free radicals.
Among the factors that lead to the recurrence of the disease and increase the likelihood of attacks are the occurrence of infections and diseases in the body. Having these diseases by activating the immune system increases the destruction of nerve cells and the resulting demyelination, which results in recurrence of the disease and increased damage to nerve tissue.
Alkaline ionized water with antioxidant properties, fights pathogens and free radicals and kills them. Its high absorption power also helps it penetrate more effectively into body tissues to cleanse cells and remove waste products.
