The growth of young people’s interest in sexual relations

Acceptance of the risk of sexually transmitted diseases among young people has increased and unfortunately we are witnessing the growth of their interest in this type of relationship. This will be very problematic for the future of young people and their families.

One of the widespread harms among young people is the increase in sexual diseases, one of the factors of which is the increase in the age of marriage and the tendency to have informal relationships.

In recent years, Iran has been faced with the phenomenon of a young population, and currently, nearly a third of the country’s population is comprised of young people aged 15 to 29. The increase in the number and share of the young population is a unique phenomenon in the social and demographic history of Iran. Most of the demographic events and behaviors occur during the years of youth, and at this age the most changes occur, such as dropping out of school, entering the labor market, and getting married. , divorce, risky behaviors, migration, etc. occur.

According to Dr. Salam’s report, citing Pana, the compression of events during youth along with social changes has turned youth into the engine of social changes. Young people are important not only in terms of demographic weight, but also in terms of economic, economic and political aspects, and they can be the source of changes in the country. Demographers describe such a demographic structure as a demographic window or gift, and economists call it a demographic dividend. The importance of the youth of the population in the development plans and policies of the country is clear, but the development indicators related to the youth are still not at the desired level, and the youth affairs custodians have not achieved a comprehensive and realistic understanding of the various aspects of the youth demographics.
Most problems and social harms are specific to this group and research shows that the age of starting to use tobacco and drugs is before 20 years old. Social harms such as divorce occur at this age, and the unemployed and job seekers are also in this statistical population.
Demographer Mohammad Mirzaei says in an analysis of the country’s young population: more than 70 percent of the country’s population is between 15 and 64 years old, and nearly a third of the population is between 25 and 40 years old. A huge number of young people who, if empowered, have education, jobs and housing and get married, can create an economic leap in Iran and shape the same thing that happened in Japan, China and Korea. Perhaps an example of the impact of the demographic window is the remarkable success of young athletes in recent years.
The declining trend of the country’s young population
From 1955 to 1985, it increased with a significant speed until 35.4% of the total population of the country was made up of young people, but from 1985 onwards, the number of young people in the country decreased and this figure reached 31.5% of the total population in 1990. The country realized that this downward trend is still continuing.
Interest in immigration among the country’s youth
Migration behavior of individuals varies during the life cycle. Most migrations and relocations happen at young ages. In the last few decades, young people have contributed up to 50% in the migration process, and most of their motivation for this movement was job and education. Most of the migrations abroad are motivated to continue education, and the motivation of internal migrations is employment, except for education.
Although many consider youth to be the age of marriage, statistics show that the interest of young people in celibacy has increased over the years and this trend is still increasing. During the last three decades, the percentage of unmarried men and women has increased rapidly. Economic, social factors and changes in society’s values are one of the reasons why young people are interested in being alone.
Increase in divorce among couples under 30 years old
Examining the divorce statistics shows that the highest divorce rate is among young people under 30 years of age, and a large number of these statistics experienced separation in the first year of marriage, and more than half of the divorces occurred in the first five years of life, which is at this young age. Gives. It can be said that on average, one out of every five marriages in Iran ends in divorce. Surveys of the spatial distribution of the ratio of urban divorce to registered urban marriages in 2019 show that the highest ratio in Tehran provinces is 31.2 percent and Mazandaran is 22.8 percent, and the lowest ratio is in Ilam provinces with 7.5 percent and Sistan and Baluchistan. 7.5% is observed.
Reducing the interest of young people in having children
Statistics show that in recent years, the interest in fertility among young people has decreased drastically, and if in 1960-1964, the fertility rate of young people was about 4 children, now this figure has reached more than one child. The reproductive age of age groups that used to be 20 to 24 years old has now reached 25 to 34 years old, which is due to the delay in marriage and the gap between marriage and childbearing. The percentage of women who gave birth to children before the age of 30 has decreased drastically and the desire to have one child or at most two children.
Mirzaei, a demographer, explains about the low interest of young people in having children: In the context of development, urbanization and transition from agricultural economy to urban livelihood, the demand for having children also decreases, although the emotional demand for children is always there. If in the past each family had more than two to three children, it was because of helping in the farm work or because only 4 out of 10 children survived, but now the situation is completely different and if there are 10 children in a family Almost all of them survive. This is where a balance needs to be struck.
According to him, the cost of children has become a central discussion in the context of families. In the past, wealth was transferred from children to parents, but now wealth is transferred from parents to children. In the past, children from the age of 7 to 8 worked in agricultural fields and were a source of income for their parents. Currently, 70% of the population are urban dwellers, but 50 years ago this was completely reversed. In urban society, parents support their children until old age even after marriage. Therefore, the cost of children has a great impact on the adoption equation.
He believes: for a decade, the desire to decrease the total fertility rate has remained constant at 1.8. It means that society has realized that lower than this number is dangerous. It means that every woman will bring 2.1 children on average. It means that every 10 women have 21 children, the fact that fertility has reached the sub-level of replacement is a challenge at the level of micro-fertility and it is related to the family.
This demographer emphasizes: On the other hand, we should not forget that the negative economic growth in the 1380s increased the age of marriage in the country and had a negative impact on fertility. Currently, the age of marriage is 28 for men and 24 for women, which is very high, while in the past the age for marriage was 18.5 for women and 22.3 for men. If we get out of the recession, I promise you that the age of marriage will drop, which will lead to high replacement-level fertility. Therefore, it is better to plan carefully in this field instead of worrying the society. It should be noted that if the sub-level fertility of the surrogate continues for another 50 years, i.e. 1430, we will face a negative population growth, while this problem can be solved by encouraging and facilitating marriage.
Mirzaei adds: In addition to paying attention to the population issues of the next fifty years, it is necessary to pay serious attention to the current situation of young people in terms of higher education, jobs, housing, marriage, etc., and to advance the five-year economic plan well in the next 50 years. Don’t get into trouble. In fact, according to the five-year plans, the problem of the next 50 years will be solved by itself.
Increase in sexually transmitted diseases among young people
One of the widespread harms among young people is the increase in sexual diseases, one of the factors of which is the increase in the age of marriage and the tendency to have informal relationships. According to the statistics of the Ministry of Health in 1992, 45.9% of HIV-positive patients are between the ages of 25 and 34, and 10.1% are between the ages of 15 and 24. Injection addiction is about 68%, unhealthy sexual relations is 13%, transmission from mother to child and unhealthy blood products are among the causes of HIV infection.
Pervasive injuries among young people
According to researches, the statistics of all kinds of social harms, from drug use to violence, etc., are more among young people than other ages. Dangerous driving, drug abuse, smoking, sexual vulnerability, HIV, violence, alcohol use, sexual vulnerability are some of the most dangerous behaviors of young people.
Statistics show that about half of the annual deaths of young people are caused by road accidents. In Iran, 23 thousand 249 people die due to road accidents every year, 79% of them are men and 21% of them are women, and most of these deaths happen to young people between 15 and 29 years old.
Reducing the social participation of young people
The social lack of motivation of the youth is one of the problems of the country for several years. The lack of motivation that started with the inauguration of the 9th government and continued until the end of the 10th government. According to statistics, the number of non-governmental youth organizations at the end of the 8th government was 4 thousand 297 semans, and this figure has reached 198 semans at the beginning of the 11th government.
Semans are the most important way of social participation of young people. However, in the past few years, the main activities of the remaining semans in the field of youth were limited to religious semans, faith and chastity, hijab, sacrifice, and martyrdom, and semans with the topics of environment, health, tourism, science and technology are independent activities. had stopped
Youth unemployment is on the verge of warning
One of the most important issues in the field of youth is unemployment. This age group is the most important and serious group that suffers from this problem.
One of the most important issues regarding Iran’s labor market as a serious problem is the high population of young job applicants under 30 years of age. In fact, this age group is the most important and serious group that is looking for work, and solving the unemployment problem in this sector will mean that the country will pass the unemployment crisis.
The fact that hundreds of thousands of young job seekers in the country wait for weeks, months and even years for an opportunity to enter the labor market, in contrast to the low attraction of job seekers from the country’s labor market, has caused a kind of accumulation of unemployment in the country, and unfortunately every year There has also been an increase in the number of unemployed youth in the country.
According to the latest announcement of the Iranian Statistics Center, the unemployment rate of 15-24-year-old youth in the country is 22.9% and the unemployment rate of 15-29-year-old youth is 20.2%, which is more than 2 times the country’s general unemployment rate and indicates the continuation of the youth unemployment crisis. Is.
The annual entry of at least one and a half million people into universities and their departure in a period of 2 to 4 years in the hope of finding a job from the university is a problem that is currently considered one of the most important due to the lack of employment opportunities for young job seekers. The challenges of the country are known. Young people who, after years of studying in universities, do not have any demand from the labor market for employment. Having a family and spending days at home without using it is a great inconvenience.
Currently, Lorestan province has the highest youth unemployment rate among the provinces with 50% unemployment rate.
Changing policies, the main challenge in the field of youth
By examining the problems and crises that plague the country’s young population, the need for specific planning and policies is felt more than in the past. In the meantime, the Ministry of Sports and Youth, the Supreme Youth Council, the Ministry of Labor and Cooperatives, etc. are among the official institutions in charge of youth policy.
But due to the lack of a strong institutional position for planning youth affairs and the lack of supervision and lack of executive guarantee for the realization of the plans, the plans that are predicted to solve the problem of the youth have always been less towards implementation, or with the arrival of different governments and with the change of views to this The stratum of planning to solve problems has differed. Looking at youth programs and policies in the past years, most of the programs were centered around identity and culture, but today’s youth need economic programs that will solve their serious problems in the field of unemployment or facilitating and organizing marriage.
