The Healing Power of Herbs vs. Prescription Drugs

I love visiting the small local herb and essential oil merchant store. The rustic shelves with glass jars all neatly lined in a row. The many colors and scents from the delicate herbs and oils. I just feel healthier and connected to nature by being there amidst these earthy treasures. And as silly as it sounds, this experience is one that makes my heart sing. That is also how I feel about natural remedies and helping people feel better.
Herbs vs. Prescriptions
The prescription drug industry is big time business to the tune of $200 billion per year being spent annually in the United States alone. For example, the difference in cost using the popular drug Celebrex, used to treat arthritis, costs over $4 per day, while ginger supplements, an herbal remedy for inflammation, cost just $0.38 per day.
• Safer and better for you
• Way Cheaper
• No side effects (or very limited)
• Readily Available
• Doesn’t require a prescription (Doctors Visit more $$)
I have up close and personal experience with this particular topic. Our youngest daughter was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. She was on prescription drugs, twice weekly injections of methotrexate (a chemo drug) and these all came with terrible side effects. She was on various prescriptions for almost five years. I finally decided enough was enough. I spent weeks researching natural remedies for Arthritis and finally put her on a protocol that was 100% safe and has proven to be very effective. She has been off all prescriptions for over a year now and has been pain free. This is just a simple example of making the transition from our over reliance on prescriptions and looking for alternative natural remedies.
So just this Christmas we were enjoying all the quality family time we could squeeze in while the oldest two are home for college. Then my husband came down with a terrible cold that had him down for the count. I’m pretty tough and decide I’m not going down. However, the sniffles suddenly turn into a runny nose that is like a leaking faucet. After using every tissue in the house and feeling like Rudolph, I decide I have to make it stop. I did some internet research and reviewed a dozen natural remedies. I realize I should just combine them all into a tea and it worked like a miracle. I hadn’t been able to stop my nose from dripping for 3 days straight and within 30 minutes of drinking this tea, it totally stopped. Another minor miracle was that I made a cup for my 13 year old son who is very picky and he thought it tasted pretty good!
Moms Miracle Tea Recipe:
– 1 cup of water- 1/4 tsp garlic (I used crushed from the jar)
– 1/4 – 1/2 tsp ginger (jar or fresh slices)
– 1 – 2 tsp honey (to taste)
– 1 tbsp lemon juice
– 1/2 tsp cinnamon
– 1 tea bag for flavoring (I used Herbal Orange spice)
I simply threw it all into a saucepan and let it lightly boil for about 3 minutes. Then removed it from the stove and added the tea bag and let it brew for a couple more minutes. The garlic and ginger are pretty chunky so I strained it out before serving. You will be very grateful for this recipe this winter. Using natural remedies like this can help save you money and keep you healthier for 2014!
I’d love to hear from you once you try Moms Miracle Tea. I’ve heard back from lots of people who say it worked for them. Do you have any other favorite remedies for colds? Let us know in the comments below!
