The board members of the Iranian Urology Association are unanimous in their opinion that the issue of men’s health has been neglected in society.
In the press conference of the Men’s Health Week, which was held on Wednesday with the presence of three members of the board of directors of the Iranian Urology Association, various issues related to the health status of men were discussed and discussed.
First, Dr. Seyed Jalil Hosseini, the head of the Asian Urology Association, announced that Men’s Health Day has been held since 1994 in Canada and the United States and since 2001 in China, and said: “In Iran, this day has been held since 1985 by the efforts of the Iranian Urology Association.” Until 1990, the first Thursday of March was named as Men’s Health Day. But since 1991, the Ministry of Health decided to establish Men’s Health Week.

Hosseini continued: Unfortunately, most men go to the doctor when it may be too late for treatment.
Emphasizing on doing regular sports activities, not using tobacco and controlling fat, blood sugar and blood pressure to prevent the occurrence of diseases, he stated: When the father is healthy, he will take care of the family. In fact, a healthy society needs men’s health.
In addition, Dr. Abbas Basiri, the secretary of the Iranian Urology Association, said that men are more receptive to accidents and said: Men are exposed to all kinds of occupational, social, and other injuries.
Heshid Beheshti, a faculty member of the University of Medical Sciences, added: In general, most men are exposed to more serious diseases and more deaths.
Declaring that the life expectancy of women in the whole world is higher than that of men, Basiri said: Diseases such as kidney stones are 2.5 times more common in men than in women. Bladder cancer is 2.5 to 3 times more common in men than in women. Also, advanced cancers that lead to bladder removal are 4.5 times more common in men than in women.
He emphasized: In common diseases, women’s sense of self-care is more than men’s.
Basiri further mentioned the special disease of men and added: The prostate gland is one of the vital organs of the body, without which the human race would never continue. However, the same prostate at a young age leads to infection due to the entry of germs and bacteria. So that 10% of young people get prostate infection and inflammation, which is a troublesome disease.
Announcing that the prostate can cause problems at the age of 50 and above due to its enlargement, this kidney surgeon said: Unfortunately, prostate cancer may not show itself because it occurs in the external areas of the prostate.
Dr. Mohammad Reza Nowrozi, who is in charge of organizing the Men’s Health Week, also pointed to the presentation of statistics of diseases that threaten men’s health and added: Every day, around 300 people die due to cardiovascular diseases in the country. 55 to 60 percent of them are men.
The professor of Tehran University of Medical Sciences announced that bladder cancer in men is 4.5 times that of women and said: 3,500 new cases of prostate cancer are detected in the country every year. While the advanced cases of this disease are 2-3% in the world, this statistic is expected to be between 5-10% in Iran.
Nowrozi pointed to testicular cancer in men and added: Testicular cancer is one of the most common cancers between the ages of 15 and 35. Because it has no symptoms and is painless, many boys go to the doctor in advanced cases.
