This Citrus Kale Juice Recipe Contains Twice The Amount of Calcium Found In 1 Glass of Milk

You read it right – this citrus kale juice recipe will give you double the calcium found in just 1 glass of milk. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to consume dairy to get your daily calcium needs. Calcium is found in almost every plant food, with some plant foods containing higher amounts like kale, chia seeds, collards, oranges, and celery.

Milk and dairy products are actually one of the leading causes of osteoporosis and other bone disorders (not to mention they mess with our hormones). You can read all about that here, but essentially the casein in milk strips our bones of precious alkaline minerals because dairy products are incredibly acidic – the body instinctively protects itself and withdraws minerals from our bones to buffer the acid. This means less mineral density in the bones, putting you at higher risk for developing osteoporosis or bone fractures.

One cup of milk contains 305 mg of calcium. This juice contains 4 cups of kale (400 mg calcium), 4 large oranges (300 mg calcium) and 1 cup of celery (40 mg calcium), which provides you with over 740 mg of calcium! That’s almost double the amount found in 1 cup of milk – not to mention, this citrus kale juice also provides your body with a host of other beneficial vitamins, minerals and crucial phytonutrients and antioxidants!
