Help get rid of pain, improve digestion and clear the skin with this enzyme-rich pineapple smoothie. Pineapple is an incredibly special fruit, because it contains the enzyme bromelain. This protein-digesting enzyme is similar to pepsin, a naturally-occurring enzyme in the gut essential for the digestion and breaking down of proteins.

Enzymes help increase the rate of biochemical reactions in the human body, and with a majority of the modern-day diet consisting of foods that contain low enzyme bioavailability, we must turn to raw foods that still contain intact enzymes. Ingredients:

– 3 cups ripe pineapple
– 1 cup mango
– 2 inches fresh turmeric root
– 1 cup chopped cucumber
– 1/2 cup packed herb of choice (I like to use mint or basil)
– 1 cup coconut water

Method:

Stick all of the above ingredients in a blender, and pulse blend for 30-60 seconds or until smooth. You can also add in some crushed ice for a cooler effect if you please.
