Why do we get tendonitis?
Anyone can get tendonitis, but it is more common in adults, especially after the age of 40.
With age, the tendon cannot withstand much pressure and its elasticity becomes less and it tears more easily.
It may take several weeks to several months for tendonitis to resolve, depending on its severity
Tendon is a thick cord that connects bone to muscle. Repeated movement of a part of the body causes inflammation of the tendons of that part or it occurs as a result of a serious injury.
The following activities cause inflammation of the tendon:
– Gardening
– Carpentry
– Shoveling the ground
– Painting the house
– Tennis sport
– Skiing
– Throwing the ball
– Sanding the ground
– Grind something to be cleaned like a carpet
What are the causes of tendonitis?
– Being in the wrong position while working at home or at work, not warming up (preparing) the body before exercise and doing professional sports increase the risk of tendonitis.
Abnormal condition or bone or joint disease, such as short and long legs or joint inflammation (arthritis) puts pressure on the tendons.
– Complications caused by other diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, gout, psoriatic arthritis, thyroid gland disorders or abnormal drug reactions also cause inflammation of tendons.
– Inflammation of tendons is common in people who exercise hard and a lot only on weekends.
Sometimes an infection causes inflammation of the tendons, especially if the infection is caused by a bite on the hand or fingers by a dog or cat.
Which part of the body is the tendon most inflamed?
Inflammation of tendons can occur in any part of the body, but it is mostly seen in the following areas:
– big toe
– elbow
– the shoulder
– pelvis
– knee
Achilles tendon (connects the heel bone to the calf muscle)
What are the symptoms of tendonitis?
– Pain in and around the tendon: pain can appear gradually or start suddenly and severely, especially if calcium is deposited there.
– Reduction of shoulder movement
How to prevent tendonitis?
To prevent inflammation of the tendons, observe the following points during your daily activities:
– Do your work slowly at first and gradually increase its amount and intensity.
– Reduce the amount of pressure on the tendon and reduce the repetitive movements of the tendon.
– If you experience unusual pain, stop your work and do something else.
– Do it again after a while and if the pain starts again, don’t do it again that day.
How is tendonitis treated?
Primary treatments include:
Avoid doing things that make the problem worse.
Rest the injured area.
– Putting an ice pack on the tendon inflammation site
– Use anti-inflammatory drugs or anti-inflammatory gels.
If your problem does not improve within a week, see your doctor to recommend the following treatments:
Cortone injection: This drug quickly reduces the pain and inflammation of the tendon
– Physiotherapy by a specialist
– surgery
It may take several weeks to several months for tendonitis to resolve, depending on its severity.
See a doctor in the following situations:
– Fever above 37.7 degrees Celsius
– Warm feeling, redness and swelling at the site of inflammation
– Inability to move the site of inflammation
The above symptoms can be signs of other problems in the body that require faster treatment.
