He said about the characteristics of this disease: Silk Road disease or Behcet’s disease is an autoimmune disease in which the inflammation of blood vessels causes disruption of blood supply to the tissues and damages the tissue.
The head of the Iranian Rheumatology Association said about the complications of this disease: mouth ulcers, genital tract infections, skin lesions in the form of purulent pimples, joint involvement, and most importantly, eye injuries and lesions are among the most important complications of this disease.
Dr. Jamshidi stated that the prevalence of this disease is the same among men and women and stated: The onset of this disease is more common in young and middle-aged people, but it has also been observed in children.
The rheumatology expert stated that this disease cannot be prevented but it can be treated, adding: Iran is one of the world’s most prestigious centers in the field of diagnosis, treatment and research on Behcet’s disease, and the rheumatology research center of Tehran University of Medical Sciences conducts extensive research in this field. in processing.
He continued: Many patients from neighboring countries come to Iran for treatment of this disease, and Iran is active in this field in the same region as Turkey.
